Nawal Sagar Lake
Nawal Sagar Lake is surrounded by many different baoris (step wells) and is also home to several small islets. These structures built in the center of the lake, reflect the water and provide the viewers with an unforgettable and a picturesque view. There is also a famous temple situated in the middle of the lake. Dedicated to Lord Varuna, the Aryan God of Water, it is known for its immense religious significance. Even though the temple is half submerged in the water, it attracts a large number of both devotees and tourists regularly. Since the temple is situated in the middle of the lake, one has to take a boat from the banks of the lake to reach this beautiful temple.
Since the lake is located in the heart of Bundi, the reflection of the entire city along with its various forts and palaces can be seen in the lake water, making it one of the most unique and breathtaking attractions of this small town. As the reflection of the town falls on the lake water, this view cannot be compared to anything else in the world. Tourists from all over the globe descend to Bundi just to be a part of this beautiful phenomenon.
During the olden days, this square shaped artificial lake used to serve as a main source of water for the inhabitants of Bundi. This is clearly evident from the several baoris (step wells) surrounding the Nawal Sagar Lake. However, today, after the piped water system was introduced in Bundi, the lake has become a major tourist attraction and also offers a great ambience for visitors, who want to spend some time away from the hustle bustle of city life.
